Our Story
Tyhoniah began in 2015 with one simple plea — our brother wanted a tie-dye shirt that wasn’t mass-produced. It started as a single handmade gift. This quickly grew into a passion. It then transformed into a business built on color, creativity, and heart.

Shawna launched Tyhoniah that year, starting with basic dyes for kids’ pieces before discovering professional-grade Procion dyes. In 2016, her sister Jeanne joined. Together, they have been traveling from festival to festival. They share their handmade art with free spirits everywhere.

As a small, home-based business, every Tyhoniah piece is created with care from start to finish. We source blanks from other small businesses or design and sew them ourselves. Each item undergoes several steps. It is washed and soaked in soda ash for at least three days. It is hand-spun and tied into unique patterns. Then, it is dyed and left to set for a full week. Finally, it is rinsed by hand with a hose and washed in special detergents to guarantee vibrant, lasting color.

This work is more than our art. It is our livelihood because we are both disabled . It’s also our way of connecting with community. Every piece shows hours of love, patience, and handwork, and no two will ever be the same.

Today, Tyhoniah is expanding beyond the festival circuit. It is entering the online world. Our one-of-a-kind creations are reaching dreamers, dancers, and color-lovers everywhere.
Hand-dyed. Heart-made. One-of-a-kind. That’s Tyhoniah.
